International geology experts visit Recursos Minerales de Galicia

Recursos Minerales de Galicia welcomed participants from the 2026 symposium of the International Association on the Genesis of Ore Deposits (IAGOD), one of the leading international events dedicated to understanding how mineral deposits form. Particular attention is given to pegmatites, the target rock of the Recursos Minerales de Galicia project.

During the visit, the group toured the project facilities, including the offices and drill core storage facility, and met with the Mina Doade technical team to learn more about the exploration work carried out to date.

The visit was part of the Rare-element pegmatites of Portugal and Spain programme, which is taking participants to a number of geological sites across Spain and Portugal associated with rare-element pegmatites. The itinerary includes the Lalín-Forcarei pegmatite field in Galicia, as well as several locations in Portugal and other sites of geological interest across the Iberian Peninsula.

IAGOD 2026 was held from 30 August to 2 September at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto under the theme ‘The Role of Geoscience in the Energy Transition’. The symposium brought together specialists from around the world to share knowledge and research on geology, mineral resources and the processes involved in the formation of mineral deposits.

The visit gave pegmatite specialists the opportunity to see the Mina Doade project first-hand, learn about its current geological work and review the results of the exploration carried out so far.

Mina Doade’s inclusion in the itinerary of this specialised programme reflects the international interest in Galicia’s pegmatite geology, particularly in the context of critical mineral exploration and the resources needed for the energy transition.
