An independent team of professionals has conducted meeting and public consultations in the municipalities of Beariz, Avión, A Lama, Forcarei, and Cerdedo-Cotobade.
Mina Doade, the underground mining project for the extraction of lithium and feldspar minerals in Beariz (Ourense), has completed the first phase of its public participation process.
Since September, a team of sociologists has undertaken extensive fieldwork, conducting over 40 in-depth interviews and meetings with community stakeholders. These include communal land associations, neighbourhood association, business groups, as well as environmental, cultural and social organisations.
Additionally, nearly 500 in-person citizen surveys have been conducted in the municipalities of Beariz, Avión, Forcarei, A Lama, and Cerdedo-Cotobade. Approximately another hundred have been self-completed through this website by interested citizens.
With this fieldwork now concluded, Recursos Minerales de Galicia, S.A., the promoter of Mina Doade, will develop an Economic and Social Impact Study. This will be the result of the initial Public Participation and Communication project and will also fulfil a requirement of the Law for the Promotion of the Social and Economic Benefits of Projects that Utilise Galicia’s Natural Resources (Law 02/2024), recently approved by the Galician Parliament. The promoting company had already committed to the preparation of this study months before its enactment.
The Economic and Social Impact Study is part of Mina Doade’s approach to open and transparent communication with the community, involving them in the project’s progress and data throughout its development.
The goal is to engage institutions, individuals, and social and economic stakeholders in the project. The aim is to foster effective collaboration through participatory methodologies and mechanisms that promote transparency.
Following the completion of this first phase, Recusos Minerales de Galicia, S.A., continues to hold meetings with the councils of the involved communities to update them on the progress of the Mina Doade mining project and will organise public meetings and events to ensure the flow of information and transparency throughout the entire process.
As an information channel, this website remains active, providing clear and up-to-date data about the mining project. It has established both physical and online participation channels to gather all kinds of opinions and suggestions from citizen and individuals interested in the project.
