The European Commission has selected Mina Doade for inclusion in the list of Strategic Projects under the European Union’s Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA). In doing so, the EU highlights that the underground mining project for the extraction of lithium and feldspar in Beariz (Ourense) is of public interest.
This decision by the European Commission underscores its importance “for securing the supply of strategic raw materials and ensuring the proper functioning of the European internal market.”
Mina Doade’s inclusion among the 47 selected by the EU (seven in Spain and only one in Galicia) in the first list of Strategic Projects under the CRMA reflects the technical quality of the project submitted by Recursos Minerales de Galicia, S.A., its commitment to sustainable mining, and its relevance to Europe’s future.
Mina Doade completed the application process for an exploitation concession with the Regional Ministry of Economy, Employment and Industry on 17 January 2025. Since then, the application submitted by Recursos Minerales de Galicia, S.A. has been following the administrative procedures according to the legal deadlines.
Once the full technical information about the project is made public soon, a period will begin which the company intends to establish a dialogue forum with local stakeholders interested in the project (communal land communities, residents’ associations, local councils, etc).
In this way, the project of public information and citizen participation initiated through the Economic and Social Impact Study submitted during the application process will be continued.
