a mine of excellence for the UE
The EU has designated the Mina Doade project as strategic due to:
- The economic importance of the raw material: lithium is critical in key sectors for the EU, such as automotive, technology, and industry.
- The supply risk: it is considered high because production and imports are concentrated in countries with significant political instability, or when the material is difficult to recycle or substitute.
The inclusion of Mina Doade among the 47 projects selected by the the EU in the first list of Strategic Projects under the CRMA underscores the technical quality of the project presented by Recuros Minerales de Galicia, S.A., its commitment to sustainable mining and its relevance for Europe’s future.
lithium builds europe
The European Union’s Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA), which came into effect in May 2024, aims to diversify and secure the supply of strategic raw materials.
Europe has proven reserves, and the EU seeks to encourage domestic extraction and production to ensure the continent’s industrial dependence. Spain is one of the countries with significant evidence of potentially extractable lithium in Galicia, Extremadura, and Castilla y León. There are also extraction projects in northern Portugal.

the benefits of mina doade for galicia
According to EU plans, Strategic Projects will have significant benefits. They will access more agile authorisation channels and processes and will have priority when it comes to financing, all while maintaining the legal deadlines required by national legislations.
One of the advantages is the possibility of obtaining permits within a maximum of 27 months, thus accelerating the project’s viability and ensuring a more stable supply of lithium.
It is crucial to understand that this project not only involves the economic development of the region but also makes a significant contribution to the security of the supply of strategic raw materials for all of Europe.
This step reinforces the project’s commitment to European standards and its alignment with the EU’s strategic objectives in terms of raw material supply.
Lithium mining in Doade-Beariz will not only position Galicia as a key point on the map of critical raw materials but will also contribute to the sustainability and decarbonization of the European economy.
